As you gear up for a long weekend of fireworks, cookouts, and (hopefully) some well-earned relaxation, I’ve got you covered with this week’s What to Watch list. Whether you're lounging on a beach or hiding out in the AC, there’s plenty worth streaming.
Don’t forget—you can always explore the archived watch lists for past recommendations you might’ve missed. And if you're in the mood to swap screen time for page-turning, check out the Book Club tab for great reads to dive into over the holiday break.
Now let’s get into what’s worth watching this week...
Documentaries:
Attack on London: Hunting The 7/7 Bombers (Netflix) is the story of one of the most devastating terror attacks on British soil and the ensuing three weeks of panic, paranoia and manhunts that changed Britain forever - told by those who lived it. On 7th July 2005, four British men detonated suicide bombs on the London transport system, killing 52 and injuring over 700. A failed second attack, two weeks later, triggered Britain’s biggest-ever manhunt and led to the fatal police shooting of an innocent man. As the country struggled to make sense of these shocking events, the authorities raced against the clock to stop further attacks. (July 1)
Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel (Netflix) - In the early 2000s, American Apparel becomes one of the United States’ most successful fashion brands, known for its colourful casual clothing, ethical production and its sexually provocative advertising campaigns. For young staffers it’s an exciting time; a chance to be part of a cult-like company revolutionising the fashion industry, and an opportunity to learn from American Apparel’s charismatic CEO and founder, Dov Charney.
But as the brand quickly expands, the young employees begin to realise that American Apparel’s shiny surface is hiding a darker reality. Charney’s chaotic management starts to hit the company’s finances, and he is accused of sexual harassment by female employees.
As problems mount and the company begins to implode, staff members are forced to come to terms with the toxic work environment Charney has created. (July 1)
Frontline: Syria After Assad (PBS) - Syria’s uncertain future under Jihadist-turned-statesman Ahmad al-Sharaa. After the fall of Bashar al-Assad, acclaimed FRONTLINE correspondent Martin Smith (America and the Taliban; The Jihadist) travels the country tracing al-Sharaa’s rise to power, and the emerging threats to the country’s stability. (July 1)
Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print (HBO) - Launching its first trailblazing issue in 1972 and still publishing today, Ms. magazine revolutionized the feminist movement, igniting provocative conversations about issues that impact women, from politics to harassment, race, sex, and abortion. In the documentary, three filmmakers select iconic cover stories to explore the complexities of creating a magazine that was unafraid to wrestle with challenging, and often polarizing, issues. (July 2)
Reality Shows:
The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys (Bravo/Peacock) covers the ongoing saga of the McBee family as they strive to rescue their farm and cattle ranch from financial ruin. (June 30)
You can also check out The Valley (Bravo) and Real Housewives of Miami (Bravo) this week.
Love ya Kate. My favorite podcaster by far. Am a Patreon and I regularly take your recommendations for what to watch and I just ordered the Anna Wintour book.
I love your lists and am a proud patron! Always quality content not found anywhere else!
