If you love true crime:
Me, Hereafter (Hulu) takes viewers inside gripping murder investigations like never before as if the dead have a voice from the beyond. Combining investigative footage, interrogation videos, dramatic reenactments and interviews, it gives voice to victims as detectives uncover the truth. (February 29)
Pathological: The Lies of Joran Van Der Sloot (Peacock) delves into Joran van der Sloot’s lifelong pattern of violence and pathological lying through rare interviews and new insights years after he brutally murdered American Natalee Holloway and Peruvian Stephany Flores. I will be interviewing the director this week. (February 27)
American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders (Netflix) - What began as an inquiry into an arcane intellectual-property dispute ensnared one journalist in a massive web of intrigue involving political machinations, international espionage, and maybe even murder. It takes another look at the unfinished work of the journalist who was investigating it all before he was found dead under curious circumstances. When Danny Casolaro agreed to take on the story of an ongoing dispute between the Department of Justice and a technology company called INSLAW, no one could have predicted where his reporting would take him: to the hidden underbelly of some of the shadiest stories of the 1980s, including spyware, money laundering, Reagan’s Iran-Contra, . At the time, Casolaro compared the sprawling scope of his interconnected delvings to an octopus — with a high-ranking government official responsible for the revelations within each proverbial tentacle — and became obsessed with bringing the entirety of this story to light. But after Casolaro was found dead in a hotel room in Martinsburg, West Virginia, it seemed that his work would remain unfinished. Decades later, a photojournalist named Christian Hansen has picked up where Casolaro left off, and his mission to uncover the answers Casolaro was looking for is at the center of The Octopus Murders. (February 28)
I will also be interviewing the director and Christian Hansen in Friday’s episode.
If you love music and pop culture:
