Hello again,
Did you listen to my episodes last week? I hope you listened to my Saturday Series episode with Maura Bragg. So many of you have told me you are still thinking about her story. I have included a list of last week’s episodes below.
I also have great episodes in store this week, including Tuesday’s episode about the history of the Hilton family.
This week’s must watch list:
Documentaries:
Coach Prime (Amazon) season three premieres this week. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders led the team to a successful 2024 season that included its first bowl game appearance in four years, and fans are set to get a deeper look at the Buffaloes' impressive campaign. This series is inspiring and emotional. (January 7)
Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action (Netflix) explores how this daytime talk show became one of the biggest and most outrageous TV hits of the nineties and the destruction it caused, raising renewed questions about who was responsible, and how far things should go in the name of entertainment. It’s a walk through the craziness of the 90s talk show era. (January 7)
Sons of Ecstasy (Max) is almost like a psychological thriller. At the epicenter of the 1990s ecstasy drug trade in Arizona sits an unusual rivalry. English stockbroker, Shaun Attwood, faces off against Gerard Gravano, the son of notorious New York mobster-hitman Salvatore ‘Sammy the Bull’ Gravano. For the first time, the Gravanos tell their side of the story. Through riveting first-hand accounts from inside both factions, the film unravels the unexpected showdown between the British business guru and the mafia heir apparent in the Arizona desert. (January 9)
Frontline: Maui’s Deadly Firestorm (PBS) investigates critical missteps that day — and in the years prior, as the county and state were repeatedly advised to invest more money in prevention and preparedness, and as experts and residents raised concerns. (January 7)
Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (PBS) features celebrity guests who sit down with Dr. Gates to dive into their ancestral history and solve mysteries that have plagued their families. (January 7)
In each episode, celebrities are presented with a "book of life" that is compiled with information researched by professional genealogists that allows them to view their ancestral histories, learn about familial connections and discover secrets about their lineage.
Reality Television:
Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test (Fox) - Like the original British series, Special Forces: World's Toughest Test pits contestants against harsh environments all around the world in a shortened training course that is designed to replicate a number of elements of the actual United States Special Forces selection course, which is notoriously difficult and has claimed the lives of people who have participated in it.
