Happy Monday!
This week’s list has binge worthy series and a documentary that will serve as a huge conversation starter this week.
As always, if you find this what to watch list helpful, please share it with your friends, post about it, or send it to your group chat. And if you’re not already, make sure to follow me on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter for daily recs and behind-the-scenes moments from the show.
Now, let’s get into what to watch this week...
Documentary and Series:
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (Netflix) is outstanding this season. This season they have a larger rookie class. Out of the 36 spots on the squad, 23 veterans return, leading to the largest rookie class in the past five years. I didn’t think they could outdo the first season, But I think they have. This one you will devour. (June 18)
Surviving Ohio State (Max and HBO) tells the story of the male victims of Dr. Richard Strauss, a sports medicine physician and serial sex abuser employed by The Ohio State University (OSU) from 1978 to 1998. Bravely told by the student-athletes and others who concealed their trauma for years, the film builds on the efforts of whistleblowers and journalists who exposed the scandal in 2018. It also examines the culture that allowed the abuse to continue unchecked for nearly two decades at OSU, as well as the survivors’ present-day fight to hold the school accountable. (June 17)
I have an interview this week with the director.
Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem (Netflix) is about Rob Ford, who scandalized Canadian politics as the brash yet beloved mayor of Toronto — until an infamous video of him smoking crack sparked his downfall. (June 17)
Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore (Theaters) - The documentary delves into Matlin's extraordinary life and career, from her Oscar-winning performance in Children of a Lesser God at age 19 to her advocacy for Deaf representation in Hollywood. It also addresses her personal challenges, including an abusive relationship with co-star William Hurt, struggles with addiction, and her efforts to secure roles for Deaf actors in mainstream media. June 20 in theaters.
Reality Shows:
A new season of Real Housewives of Miami (Bravo) began last week, and started off strong. Just imagine a cast member throwing her boyfriend a birthday party and there is an argument, dress changes, and possibly a group o f people doing cocaine in a room - and not necessarily in that order.
In this week’s episode (yes, we’re only two in), the cast jets off to Milan, Italy. Expect fresh tensions, shifting alliances, and more drama as the Miami ladies embrace their jet-setting lifestyles across Europe. (Airs June 18)
Expedition Unknown (Discovery Channel) is perfect if you have children. In the season opener, host Josh Gates is embarking on a journey, uncovering the truth about Adolf Hitler’s terrifying Americkabomber, a long-range airplane designed to destroy New York City. The clip showed Gates unearthing astounding finds after breaking through still-sealed Nazi tunnels. (June 18)
You can also watch episodes of Love Island USA, which my daughter calls Chopped Island. She said fewer people are interested in this season because the cast was more attractive last season.
Enjoy!
