Hello again,
How was your weekend? Are you ready for some great reality shows and documentaries to light up your week?
Make sure that you have listened to last week’s episodes. By the way, this week’s episodes of 100 Foot Wave (HBO) should win an Emmy award, it is superb. It airs on May 8. You can listen to my interview with Garrett and Nicole McNamara here.
Here’s your list this week:
Documentaries:
Untold: Shooting Guards (Netflix) is about what really went down between professional basketball players Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton This exposé unpacks how a gambling dispute led to guns drawn in an NBA locker room. (May 6)
A Deadly American Marriage (Netflix) is one of those true crime cases I still think about. A chilling 911 call. A gruesome scene. What is the real story behind Jason Corbett’s brutal death? In this documentary, Jason’s wife and children reflect on the elusive truths behind their seemingly fairytale life. (May 9)
The Judd Family: Truth Be Told (Lifetime) examines Naomi Judd’s complicated bond with her daughters, Wynonna and Ashley, that both tied them together and drove them apart. Directed by Alexandra Dean (Secrets of Playboy, This is Paris, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story), the documentary explores the complex mother-daughter dynamics and intergenerational trauma as seen through the eyes of The Judd Family. In addition to exclusive interviews with Ashley, Wynonna, close family members and those who knew Naomi best, the documentary features never-before-seen photos, home videos, unreleased songs, and audio. (May 10 and 11)
Save: The Katie Meyer Story (ESPN/ESPN 60) is a one-hour documentary. In 2022, the sports world was stunned by the death of Stanford soccer captain Katie Meyer, who died by suicide just three months shy of graduation. In the aftermath, her family began a search for answers and ultimately a fight for change. (May 10)
Full Speed (Netflix) follows NASCAR Cup Series drivers on and off the track during the playoffs. (May 7)
Conan O’Brien Must Go (Max) features Conan experiencing local cultures and connects with fans he previously met on his podcast. (May 8)
Long Way Home (Apple TV+) follows Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman as they take a motorcycle adventure across Europe. (May 9)
Murder Has Two Faces (Hulu) shines a light on little-known murder cases that were eclipsed in the media by notorious cases. Think Laci Peterson/Evelyn Hernandez and Chandra Levy/Joyce Chiang. Not only does the series share new details on these overlooked crimes, but it also asks a question: Why didn't they get the same level of attention as their notorious, eerily similar counterparts? (May 6)
I interviewed the executive producer, and that episodes will air on Tuesday.
Reality Shows:
The Devil’s Plan (Netflix) brings together 12 savvy contestants to face off in mind-bending games of wit and strategy to determine who’s the brainiest of them all. They need to be cunning, they need to create alliances, they might even need to backstab — and they’re all stuck together 24/7 without their phones. Think Survivor, but it’s a chess game that takes place in a house with bedrooms that double as jail cells. (May 6)
Enjoy!
You always have the best recs 👏🏼 saves me so much time scouring streaming platform
