Happy Monday!
Hope you got a chance to listen to the interview with my Mom this weekend about my estranged father.
If that didn’t get your head spinning, these picks for this week will.
Pretty Baby (Hulu) is about Brooke Shields, ’80s icon. Brooke was a child model before she came to prominence in Louis Malle’s controversial film Pretty Baby at age 12. With a series of provocative Calvin Klein jeans ads and leading roles in 1980s teensploitation hits The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, her early career was defined by a sexuality that she could neither claim nor comprehend.
In this two-part documentary, director Lana Wilson reveals Shields’ story through media appearances and archival footage, bringing full context to the time when Shields was coming of age in public. Wilson creates space for the adult Shields to share her intelligence, vulnerability, and humanity while reflecting on her career and life, including her complex relationship with her mother, Teri, her marriage to Andre Agassi, and her own struggles with motherhood. Honest and incisive, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields critiques a toxic culture and power structure that perpetuates misogyny and is complicit in the sexualization and objectification of young girls. But, above all, it tells the moving story of Brooke Shields discovering and embracing her own identity and agency. (Streaming now)
American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing (Netflix) - The 2013 Boston Marathon bombing paralyzed a great American city on what was supposed to be its happiest day. Ten years later, this three-part series delves into the massive manhunt that followed the tragedy, as remembered by the law enforcement officials who brought the bombers to justice and the survivors caught in the crossfire. (April 12)
The Reluctant Traveler (Apple TV) has Eugene Levy visiting some of the world's most beautiful and intriguing destinations in Costa Rica, Finland, Italy, Japan, Maldives, Portugal, South Africa, and the United States, exploring hotels and places. (Streaming)
Below Deck Sailing Yacht (Bravo) returns with CaptainGlenn Shephard and veteran department heads Daisy Kelliher (Chief Stew), Gary King (First Mate) and Colin MacRae (Chief Engineer). New crew members include Chef Ileisha Dell, stews Lucy Edmunds and Mads Herrera and deckhands Chase Lemacks and Alex Propson. (April 10)
Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip 3 (Peacock) episode this week is a must watch for one reason. I need to figure out if Casa Azul tequila is sponsoring this season. Gizelle, who feels like a producer herself, is flipping out in this last season about a missing tequila bottle. She wants to scour each person’s room. When they came back from a trip into Phuket (they are in Thailand), Whitney rushed inside. Was it because of diarrhea or she needed to hide the bottle? (Thursdays)
Til Death Do Us Part Kourtney & Travis (Hulu) premieres April 13 on Hulu. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's wedding will be documented in an upcoming special titled 'Til Death Do Us Part Kourtney & Travis.’ The new season starts airing in May, and unless they have done a pretty good job keeping their lives private the last 6 months, the season should be boring. This should have been in their regular season, but they must have paid her a big fee to cover the wedding separately. In other words, Kourtney probably ended up breaking even for her over the top wedding. Yes, celebrities get almost everything for free. I’d still watch to see if she was a bridezilla, and if her kids were supportive.
